Despite decades of scientific proof and resounding logic, there are still people out there that believe that the U.S. Apollo missions to the moon in the 1960s and 1970s were staged, with the Bluegrass State ranking among the people that believe such misinformation the most.
Nationally, Kentucky ranked second among the 50 states and Washington D.C. that make up the United States when it came to search interest totals surrounding such baseless conspiracies, with a score of 95 in total.
At BetKentucky.com, we found out on Google Trends that Kentucky found itself on a list of U.S. states who believe the moon landing was fake, according to search interest scores for βmoon landing fake.β As a result of this conspiracy, we wanted to know which parts of Kentucky had the strongest collection of moon landing conspiracy theorists. We used Google Trends to find the search interest scores for Kentucky cities over the past 12 months for "moon landing fake,β and ranked them accordingly.
Rank | City | Search Interest Score |
1 | Bowling Green | 100 |
2 | Knoxville | 57 |
3 | Lexington | 48 |
4 | Louisville | 44 |
5 | Nashville | 36 |
On the state level, towns in Kentucky like Bowling Green, Knoxville and Lexington were the most misguided when it came to search interest in moon conspiracies, with the three towns scoring search interest totals of 100, 57 and 48, respectively.
Other cities that made the cut in Kentucky were Louisville at 44 and Nashville at 36, illustrating that thereβs nothing Americans love more than conspiracy theories, regardless of their socioeconomic status or hometown.
BetKentucky has occasional lifestyle stories such as this, though we specialize in Kentucky sports betting.
Rank | State | Search Interest Score |
1 | Utah | 100 |
2 | Kentucky | 95 |
3 | North Dakota | 83 |
T4 | New Hampshire | 79 |
T4 | West Virginia | 79 |
6 | Ohio | 78 |
7 | Iowa | 77 |
8 | Montana | 76 |
9 | Tennessee | 74 |
10 | Mississippi | 72 |
On the state level, Kentucky takes home the honor (or lack thereof) of having the second highest search interest score for subjects surrounding the moon landing and the baseless conspiracies it engendered, with a total score of 95.
That total put the Bluegrass State second behind Utah, which managed to notch a perfect score of 100, while Kentucky ranked ahead of other bastions of sensible thinking like North Dakota (83 search interest score), New Hampshire and West Virginia (79 search interest score each).
Throw in intellectual hotbeds like Ohio (78 search interest score), Iowa (77 search interest score), Montana (76 search interest score), Tennessee (74 search interest score) and Mississippi (72 search interest score) and you have the full list of states that buy into moon conspiracies the most in the year of our lord 2024.
