After a two-year run where he eclipsed 1,000 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground in successive seasons, it’s worth wondering whether fifth year running back Jonathan Taylor of the Indianapolis Colts will return to that epoch anytime soon.
The former Wisconsin Badger finished 2023 with a career low in yards gained (741) and rushing attempts (169) for Indy, while battling a thumb injury that required surgery and struggling when he was healthy enough to take the field.
At BetKentucky.com, we think this might be the season for Taylor to make his comeback. Using Pro-Football-Reference.com, we calculated his average rushing yards, rushing touchdowns, and success rate from his entire NFL career, along with pulling out his 2021 statistics. We’re keeping an eye on Taylor to see how he does in comparison to his average and peak performance to monitor his comeback.

While Taylor’s last two years have let him down in the long run, with 801 yards and 5.5 touchdowns per season after averaging 1,490 rushing yards and 14.5 touchdowns per year in 2020 and 2021 for the club, it’s safe to say that the 25-year-old still has plenty of room for a revival.
In order to do that, Taylor will have to stay healthy through the course of a 17-game season, which is something that he hasn’t done since his breakout campaign three years ago, when he played in all of the Colts games, racking up 332 carries, 1,811 yards and 18 touchdowns for the franchise that season.
This year, the Colts’ postseason chances are a tossup at best, while the club has +310 odds of winning the AFC South crown for the first time since 2014 this fall. on most Kentucky betting apps.
For Taylor, the task at hand is to stay on the field for a full 17 games in 2024, as he looks to get back into the form that helped him lead the NFL in rushing yards and rushing touchdowns three seasons ago in the capital city of the Hoosier State.
