As the days get shorter this time of year, it’s easy to get a tad gloomy and long for the days of bountiful sun, though the chill of winter has an unexpected side effect on people living in states like Kentucky, which has to do with the rate that residents are getting hitched in the year’s colder months.
Occurring between November through Valentine’s Day, there is a period where experts estimate around 40% of all proposals happen. At BetKentucky.com, we wanted to quickly break from our typical Kentucky sports betting coverage to see what states are most likely to get proposed to during this engagement season. Using Google Trends, we combined the search interest scores for “engagement ring” and “proposal ideas." The search period was a 30-day search conducted on November 20, 2024. We ranked the top 15 states most likely to get proposed to based on the combined search interest scores.

Where Kentucky Ranks Nationally
While the Bluegrass State falls well short of engagement season legends like Alaska (200 points), Massachusetts (170 points) and Pennsylvania (165 points), Kentucky’s total score of 86 points did net the region the ninth-highest total (alongside Georgia) nationally.
Kentucky finished directly behind eighth-ranked Texas, which had 90 points in total, while placing directly ahead of South Carolina’s total score of 85 points, with Florida, Illinois and Virginia all having 84 points apiece to rank in a tie for 12th while Rhode Island closed out the list with 83 points to finish 15th overall.
In between the top three and Kentucky, states like New Jersey (162 points), North Carolina (153 points), New York (150 points), West Virginia (96 points) and Texas grabbed spots four through eight across the 50 states and Washington D.C. that were polled for our engagement season survey.
Overall, when it comes to getting hitched, few states can hold a candle to the love-laden locale that is Kentucky, with the Bluegrass State ranked among the national leaders in engagement season engagement online, speaking to the fact that love is in the air as the days draw shorter and the temperatures drop ever lower across the country.
