The dog days of summer may be upon us, with the bleating days of 90-plus-degree heat beating down on the Bluegrass State and the dew point ratcheting higher by the day, but that also means we’re closing in on the foliage of fall and college football taking over Kentucky sports betting.
That realization means that few states are better positioned to capitalize on the proverbial changing of the seasons than Bluegrass State, which boasts one of the best regions in the country for fall foliage, thanks to the state’s varied landscapes from the western flank of Appalachia west towards the Mississippi River.
At BetKentucky.com, we wanted to see how excited states are for the autumn season. We ranked states for their interest for “fall,” according to Google Trends. The search was conducted between August 15 – 22, 2024, and we then ranked the states based on search interest scores compared to other topics.
Rank | State | Search Interest Score |
1 | Rhode Island | 100 |
2 | Massachusetts | 96 |
3 | West Virginia | 84 |
4 | Kentucky | 76 |
5 | Tennessee | 69 |
T6 | Indiana | 67 |
T6 | Ohio | 67 |
8 | Utah | 64 |
T9 | Vermont | 63 |
T9 | North Carolina | 63 |

Given Kentucky’s wonderful fall foliage, it’s likely of little surprise to learn that Bluegrass State residents are among the most interested in fall’s arrival, with a total search interest score of 76, ranking fourth across the country.
Overall, Kentucky’s search interest total ranked behind places like Rhode Island, which had a perfect score of 100, while Massachusetts (96 search interest score) and West Virginia (84 search interest score) finished second and third nationally.
Kentucky did manage to finish ahead of other fall favorites like Tennessee (69 search interest score), Indiana and Ohio (67 search interest score each), Utah (64 search interest score), Vermont and North Carolina (63 search interest score each).
At the end of the day, few states in America share the type of love for foliage and other fall mainstays like football that Kentucky residents do, netting the Bluegrass State one of the highest search interest scores nationally for the third season of the calendar year.
