While there’s still much to be learned about which horses will make the 20-thoroughbred field come the first Saturday of May, we have a pretty good hunch on several of them, with five frontrunners to make the field across Kentucky sports betting.
That quintet includes Kentucky-bred horse Tiztastic, who has won more than $1.5 million across eight starts, as well as other top-tier thoroughbreds on the scene like Final Gambit, Chunk of Gold, Coal Battle and Owen Almighty.
That quintet of horses all hold -100000 odds of making the 20-horse field in 2025 thanks to their success on the circuit, with Coal Battle being another $1 million winner, with $1,053,875 in lifetime earnings.
Combined, those five horses have career earnings of $3,957,442, showcasing the type of skill that top tier thoroughbreds have in today’s Triple Crown era, which begins in early May at Churchill Downs.
The other horses to keep an eye on include British thoroughbred Hotazhell, who has no career earnings but has -750 odds of making the field, as does Opera Ballo, who is another relative unknown on the American horse racing circuit that hails from Brazil.
Other names to keep an eye on ahead of May 3 are Titanium Emperor and Wimbledon Hawkeye, who check in at -350 apiece to make the field, while Luxor Café (-250), Myriad Love (-200), while Promise Gene, Hott Shott and Spicy Margarita check in at -150 apiece to make the 20-thoroughbred field during the 151st Kentucky Derby in Louisville.
